Jamie Friedman, M.A., PCA

Hello!
I'm Jamie, a Professional Counselor Associate.
I graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a Master's degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling, specializing in complex and shock traumas, life transitions big and small, spirituality, and LGBTQ+ care. I see adult individuals and couples across the lifespan to help support greater awareness, freedom, and ease within self and with others. Telehealth and in-person sessions are available Tuesday-Friday. If you would like support to reach your mental wellness goals, please reach out. I look forward to our work together!
About Me.
I am curious and compassionate, able to hold non-judgement and kind witness as we explore the uniqueness of your experience. As a biracial woman with an experience of misattributed parentage, discovered in adulthood, I have a unique perspective on, and compassion for, the nuances of navigating plural and sometimes conflicting identities. Before becoming a therapist, I had a previous career in academia, where I enjoyed helping folks navigate that system, find their voice, and move towards their values in a meaningful and empowered way.
A native of Portland, I am grateful to be back home in this beautiful and complicated place I grew up. When I am not in session, you might find me in the forest with my wife, daughters, and dogs; at the movies; traveling to a new place; locked in competition over a board game or on the pickleball court; or in the throes of a great book.
My Services
COUNSELING
I support my clients to find safety, rest, and joy within themselves, often in the midst of very challenging circumstances. I work with folks healing from trauma – especially childhood, religious, sexual, and relational traumas – those exploring their authentic identities, and those who want support in life transitions large and small. I believe that you are the expert of your own experience. Together we will create a space where you can explore deeper layers of your experience, to understand, and potentially reframe, strategies that no longer serve you, and to take steps towards a richer connection with yourself and others.
I have received training in interventions (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, Neuroaffective Relational Model) that work in present time to support and repair traumatic experiences, explore identity, and strengthen resiliency. My integrated approach to therapy means that I also employ Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and narrative therapy as clients need. Mindfulness and body awareness may also show up in session to release trauma held there and to ground your experience.
Other issues I treat:
Navigating parenting/coparenting/divorce
Spirituality discernment, healing, and integration
Grief and loss
Anxiety
Depression
Family estrangement/connection
Boundary setting
Navigating kink/polyamory/sex work
Welcoming the self home
Whether you’ve had many counseling experiences, or this is your very first, I look forward to learning about who you are and where you want to go on your path towards healing.
